Anonymous asked: Why can I never just be happy?

Dear Unhappy Person,

Often times, people talk about happiness as if it’s some magical state of being, that once achieved, we are safe in it’s warm glow. It’s not so easy, it never gets easier, and i think we are misguided our whole lives into thinking that most people are happy, and being happy always is an attainable or desirable state.

Accepting that one’s life is satisfactory is the closest a person can get to “being happy.” But this means being satisfied even when you’re sad, alone, depressed, angry, etc. Happiness will come in spurts, and will leave just as quickly, like those perfect days in spring, book ended with hail and rains. But even though you may hate the weather one day, be satisfied that the seasons change, and learn to temper your climate.
